So you want to try raising Meat Rabbits

First of all, I want to start by saying all rabbits are meat regardless of size.  Some just provide more than others.

I decided to write about this subject after hearing so many stories of newbies buying un-pedigreed rabbits that don't produce, stay very small and have poor attitudes

Raising Rabbits Long Term

I haven't posted anything in a very long while decided I should.

My rabbitry has expanded into a new place.  With a few friends we now have a cooperative effort for raising not only rabbits but chickens for meat and laying hens.

RABBITS, RABBITS, RABBITS

So I am hitting the 2 year mark on my rabbit project.  I have not posted in a long time so thought i would update my

bunny blog.   So when I began this I started with a couple of NZ meat mutts.  good breeders but they did not get as big as the breed should.  In other words they never did reach senior weight.  I waited to breed until they were over eight months old and they only got to about 7 pounds.  The breed should reach 9-12 pounds.  OK so then I got interested in American blues…

The American Drift What is it??

The American Drift was formed in 2009 to help American Rabbit breeders diversify thier breeding lines and to get rabbits into the hands of new breeders.  It is going on now and American rabbits are moving from the East coast to the west coast and west coast to east coast.  The drivers are covering 12,000 miles this year.  Most of the Rabbits traveling are young Juniors bucks and does.  I will be meeting the drivers to pick up two and help with any chores they may have like cleaning cages or… Continue
