Am Running out of steam on my edible desert yard project

Hey VPA!!! I need some help completing a modest city lot with large ambitions!I have contoured a flat lot with peripheral berms and internal swales to catch and hold rainwater on the property. I have semiannually sort of beaten back the weeds and goatheads, countering with landscape paper and cardboard. But I am stymied at this point, realizing at last that injuries and excesses of my youth are chickens that have come home to roost in my golden years. I am no longer 32 except in my wild and…See More

"I haven't seen it at 2000' elevations but haven't hiked many of those canyons, either. The leaf is obviously a grape leaf, and it readily climbs trees or fences. If you do locate vines this summer, I recommend you try for a root…"

Achiote?

I am looking for a source for ACHIOTE paste, seeds, or shrubs. Also known as annata or lipstick plant, the paste made from the seeds is the signature ingredient in dishes from the Yucutan peninsula. Anybody have a source for me?See More

Profile Information

About Me:
I am an artist, educator, author, and ideateur. I like defining and solving problems or puzzles. Moved to AZ in '56, lived in the Arcadia dist and in NE Scottdale until I moved up to Apache country, where I spent the bulk of my teaching career. Also taught gifted and talented on the Navajo nation for about half my teaching time. Was a co-founder and charter member of the White Mountain Fine Arts Association and the White Mountain Alternative Energy Society way back when...
I am a widow; three sons, 4 stepkids, twenty grandchildren so far, about half of whom are breeding like bunnies and have yielded twenty great grandchildren at last count, about a week ago. All beautiful and bright, naturally.
I enjoy traveling, and have recently moved my inherited double-wide to a bare lot on which I propose to create a beautiful and inviting smartscaped yard that will thrive on neglect when I am gone and feed me, body and soul, when I am home. Meanwhile, I am also working on creating a gypsy-wagon for the goats and chickens I'd like to drag along in style behind the RV!
And, then there's the old house in Winslow that I want remodel and make into a sometime summer HQ....
