#9: Interregnum

I'm down to my last month of total freedom before fall classes start. I've got all 4 compost bins going at full steam. and have started my fall planting. This slowed down the urbanite path project, but the seasons do not slow for my convenience.

I'll be cleaning the raised beds for Fall/winter planting next. This round is in-ground with frames. the squash is in the back, herbs in the front, and Sunflowers all around... eventually :D…

#8: More Cowbell!

Yes, indeed it seems as if I needed more cowbell... specifically more gravel. After getting about a 3rd of the way done with the project, I could see that I would need more material to continue and complete the sections I had mapped out. That meant more Craigslist searching, more shoveling and more hauling, and less work on the actual project. …

#7 : Lessons so Far - Recycling and Re-purposing

When I bought my house in December of 2011, I was confronted with a blank slate of a backyard and patio. Immediately I started planning how I would transform the yard into a Permaculture oasis, using as much recycled and re-purposed material as possible. In the intervening 18 months I have learned through trial and error what works and what works... better. I have saved money, forced to get in better shape than I have been in years, and have a new appreciation for anyone who does manual…

#6 - Folks, Don't Try this at Home!

This is incredibly hard work. Its not just the laying of the path, but the gathering of the material and the time and effort it takes hauling said materials from wherever to your location. Then there is the heat. Always the heat. Peeps, if you ever have a hankering to do a project like this my suggestion is: wait for winter. Seriously.

Ok, enough of my kvetching. on with the update!…
