Worried about my winter squash
1 Reply

One of my squash plants has had many of it's oldest leaves turn yellow and die over the last 5 days. Is this normal? Or is it sign of insect attack (there are little white flies around) or a sign it…Continue

Need advice for pomegranate trees

I recently bought 27 small “wonderful” pomegranate trees I found on sale.  They are in small pots and many of them have roots coming out the bottom. Also, many are leaning over and growing in crazy…Continue

Any idea what is wrong with this mesquite? I planted it from seed and then transplanted it into its current location a couple months ago when it was only about 6 inches tall. It has been growing…Continue

Rosborough Blackberries

Hello,A couple months ago I ordered 100 root cuttings of Rosborough Blackberries from a nursery in Texas. I got word that they were shipped yesterday! I am hoping to receive them this week. In my exuberance I ordered way more than I need. If anyone is interested in buying or trading for some of these let me know. I am only interested in recovering cost so I would ask like .50 a root. I am interested in pomegranate or fig cuttings! I live in the far west valley (Buckeye) which I know is not…See More

Worried about my winter squash

One of my squash plants has had many of it's oldest leaves turn yellow and die over the last 5 days. Is this normal? Or is it sign of insect attack (there are little white flies around) or a sign it needs fertilizer? The neighboring plants don't seem to be affected. The first picture is from 5 days ago and you can see the yellowing starting but only 5 days later many leaves are turning. The cowpeas and other squashes I have seem fine. Any ideas?…See More

"I leave the roots in the soil and chop them down. I don't want to dig and I figure where the roots are now will eventually become a tunnel or route for air and water to enter into the soil. That my theory anyway :)"

"If the tree is doing fine, I wouldn't worry. It could just be that the new growth was slightly "bruised" by the heavy rain. Could be bugs (doubtful) or wind, pollution, sunburn….. Remember to move the watering area as the tree…"

Daramus replied to Daramus's discussion Mesquite problem
"No not really. It is watered via deep pipe irrigation, but the symptoms you see in the pic only appeared after several days of heavy monsoon rains. Prior to that the tree was growing nicely."

"I have several pomegranates too, and if it were me, I would simply pot them up in bigger pots and leave them alone. I don't think pruning will hurt them, but I think it is extra work that you don't need to do until you plant them and get…"

Powell Gammill replied to Daramus's discussion Need advice for pomegranate trees
"If roots are coming out the bottom then pot bound ... and the roots will need be straitened out or cut back to cancel circling which WILL eventually kill the plant.  Pomegranate roots are considered sensitive to handling--I do not believe this…"
