"nah, I have probbaly that many too. It's put a hose out on the permeter and leave it for 4-5 hours and then move it.   Either way, that's my 2 cents and how I manage my yard. I've seen really good results from that way of…"

"? Not sure i don't use one. You can manually turn on and off the water system to water when needed. Timers are for the Gardner who wishes to have a hand off approach. Gardening in the desert is certainly hands on and requires your care and…"

"I went the gypsum route when I started to see the signs - then I read that the Calcium salts just replace the Sodium that might have been there...  I was never able to figure out a dosage for the soil so when I do use it I apply a healthy…"

"Less frequently. Really this is a guess and there are much smarter people but I dislike timers on new trees as they are sill acclimating to their new environs. I wait until I see signs of wilt. Look at the plant roughly at same time each day to see…"

"To add to powells suggestion as it sounds like you're watering with a hose - you may need to trickle water in the area for hours. Slow and long and not fast and hard is the best way. Got to let the water seep into the area. Think if water that…"

"Just thought I'd add something I got told and have found helpful. You might try sprinkling gypsum in your hole when you redig. It helps with salt issues I was told. In fact I was given the advice to add gypsum reguarly as a top dressing when I…"

"As Catherine says, you remove salt from your soil by deep infrequent waterings.  This drives salt down below the root zone so it does not bother the tree or at least the tree can grow.  Building a well around the tree is a good way of…"

"One you have not yet determined you have salt in your soil.  You had salt appearing on top of your soil in the low spots and as I said probably from runoff from the manure based (finished?) compost.  "Deciding poor planting, high…"

"Have you checked your drainage? Sometimes you might be sitting on a hard pan and the water pools. I always dig a hole and then fill with water. Let drain. Fill again. I think it's like 3-5 hours is fast drainage. 5-8 is good. Anything longer is…"

"Derek, just a couple of points - it is never a good idea to fertilize a newly planted tree particularly if it looks stressed. About the salt - superior drainage is key to keeping salts from building up.  A side note - in the midwest, northeast…"
