Now that I'm a month into this, I have found it to be very beneficial to pull off some of the small zukes on the lower part of the plant. They were crowded and stunted anyway. THe chickens ate some and we ate the others - baby zukes, very "haute cuisine". Now the rest of them are getting MUCH bigger.

No, I hadn't heard that, but someone did tell me I should do that to my fig tree. This is my first year with veggies - I just can't bear to pull off any of the beautiful blooms or fruit that I have labored over! I'll just call this my learning year and be more vicious next year!

Looks nice. Did you pinch off the first few blooms or are you just letting them do their thing? I heard that pinching the first several off helped promote growth, which leads to more production long-term. This is my first year with squash, so am learning as I watch the little guys start to grow. Yours look very healthy.
